Don’t worry, the animals are punching EACH OTHER, so it’s okay. Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a 2-D fighting game that stars a cast of fluffy warriors with hooves. If it looks a tad familiar that’s because the developer, Mane 6, originally developed this game as a free-to-play tribute to the meme-flexing cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Originally known as Fighting is Magic, it looked promising, even to those not ponyliterate. Unfortunately, like most beautiful things that can never be, the threat of legal backlash halted production on Fighting is Magic indefinitely.
Fortunately, like most beautiful things that can never be, the Mane 6 team decided to get back to the drawing board with their own original characters, thanks entirely to the generosity of Friendship is Magic’s original creator and designer, Lauren Faust. If you don’t know, she was also responsible for shows like The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Now with a AAA artist, a new engine, and a plethora of other features, they’ve gone to IndieGoGo with the hopes of sliding that golden calf out the door. The bar’s been raised high, over $400,000, but the game is looking good even at this stage.
Take a gander over yonder at their crowdfunding campaign here. I’ll include some of the stuff you really want to see down below, like adorable pastoral gameplay:
Even more adorable sprites with hats:
And the most adorable dynamic music system:
Okay that one’s less adorable, more lamb-kicky jammin’.
